What motivates people to become booktubers? Could I do this or do I need to be an attractive woman? I've written more in depth reviews then most of the people I see on YouTube.

Male booktubers are some of the most revolting human beings I've ever had the displeasure of watching, or maybe I'm overreacting. Either way, this stuff below is some top-tier cringe.

Topkek. Mediocre white women have more privilege than white men

It's basically just thinly veiled consumerism at this point. No intellectual analysis going on at all.

I recall some male booktubers being alright, but they were less "booktubers" and more just talking about shit they've read and reflecting on it without any sort of mentality around youtube or book consuming culture and what have you. Don't remember the channels though

being a booktuber is an alternate way of being an ethot, like smart girls ethotting method. It's all about vanity; being popular and having a following.
If that's what you want, go for it. Being a male you are at a disadvantage, though, even average, and below average women can get a following but as a male you need to be SUPERattractive to gain a following no social media. It's all a façade.

Remember it's a visual/auditory platform, nobody cares about printed words there.

the market for male booktubers (non YA of course) is yet to be saturised. you need to check certain boxes though, which include HQ technology, interesting points, good voice, decent taste, likable character with a natural edge, and last but not least marketing. female guests once in a while would not hurt.

Yes. I would love to see in depth book reviews for actually interesting books. I think there is definitely a market for it. The fact that most booktubers are women who only do surface level reviews of YA novels shouldn't discourage you. Rather it should let you know that there's space for you to innovate and differentiate yourself in the space.
