/lit/,

I loved American Psycho: hilarious, graphic and hilarious. Are any of the other books by Bret Easton Ellis good? Are they similar in style? If so/not so are they worth reading?

– Less Than Zero
– The Rules of Attraction
– The Informers
– Glamorama
– Lunar Park
– Imperial Bedrooms

Oh look, someone who likes Bret Easton Ellis. I think you should leave us alone now.

>> No.1655010

one of my friends really loves Ellis and she says Less than Zero is his greatest work.

-rest of glamorama
-the informers
-lunar park

It was mediocre, but it still may be his greatest work. If you like LTZ, read The Delivery Man instead.

"The Delivery Man" ?

It's better written, and in addition to sex and drugs, it guys who pimp out their little sisters as prostitutes. Yay!

just reading through American Psycho at the moment, kind of wish I hadn't watched the film beforehand. Gonna read The Rules of Attraction next (watched the film for that as well...)

But yeah, Ellis owns.

they are all in the same style because bret easton ellis can't write any other style because bret easton ellis does not understand how humans speak or behave

I hate that cover. I went to Boarders the other day but unfortunately it was all they had. Granted, the cover has a nice smooth sheen to it, but overall it's just not as good as the other one. Also that dash is just tacky.

Plus it cost me fifteen fucking bucks. For a book.

Cont.

At the checkout counter, I thought about what I was going to do for the rest of the day. I was wearing chonglers from Urban Outfitters, a plunging V-Neck from American Apparel, a pattern hoodie from Hot Topic, black lowtops from Foot Locker, and wayfarers that found on sale in TJ Maxx...

Your friend probably likes other shitty books about doing a lot of coke in the 80's.

Seriously, I made it almost half-way through that book until I realized it was not going to get better, so I stopped. In Ellis' defense, it was his first book, but still.

That's not how I dress. I've worn a white shirt with blue jeans every day for years.

AP is definitely his best work. Nothing else he has written is really like it, no.

Less than Zero I didn't like. The idea was good, but writing about people's dull, empty lives does not really translate into writing that is not dull and empty.

The Rules of Attraction was great. College kids + drunk + love. Basically it.

Imperial Bedrooms is basically Less than Zero but once they had all grown up and are now "successful". Replace "fuck school where's the pot" with "fuck my job where's the nearest hot bitch I can fuck". It turned out alright, but again one of his lesser quality pieces.

Two things:
1. I always think the guy on OP's cover is Aaron Eckhart
2. I wish Ellis would stop naming shit after things Elvis Costello makes
