It is a treatise on literature which has 3 aims, each elaborated in each volume:
>create a theory of literature based upon philosophical materialism
>apply it
>attack and rebute other theories of literature, like postmodernism
In the first volume he does even more than just that, he also gives genealogy of literature and a gnoseological study of it.

No, not marxist, but buenoist. In preface of the book he says that it is neither a kantian nor a marxist analysis, and he is influenced by Gustavo Bueno, Spinoza, Hegel, Plato and the Scholastics.

Seems like there's a burger version of it already - "Evolution and Literary theory" by Joseph Carroll. He spends much of the book arguing against currently dominant theories in the academia such as Post modernism post structuralism and alike.

This man is slowly making me lose my enjoyment of reading Don Quijote
I would take everything written in the book at face value, as if it were a work of satire
Looking at his analysis and meta analysis of the book has caused me to also analyse what I'm reading in turn instead of just enjoying it
I regret learning about him desu
