>life is inherently meaningless
>one ought seek out their own meaning
>this is done through internal desires, the ability to "want"
>your internal desires are shaped by things outside of your control because freewill is a meme
>the implications this has leads to absurdity

how does one move past this?

Read The World As Will And Representation, it's not hard to understand.

>> No.16544190

As long as you've created meaning, there is nothing to move "past". I suppose you could try and go full Buddhist monk and strive to remove desire.

I just flipped through WaWaR last night and read the section on humor + irony (in Vol. 2). Got-DAM Schopenhauer is a breath of fresh air, especially after being stuck reading Hegel. My guess is that—unless he's deeply expository in the text—one would want to familiarize themselves as much as possible with Plato and Kant. And, to understand Kant, one would want to read Descartes, Locke, Berkeley, Hume and probably Leibniz too.

But OP, why is "freewill a meme"? Compatibilists are fucked (even the Frankfurt-type ones) and determinists are not much better. Mostly, the issue with determinism is that it dares to put free will on the backfoot: I side with Thomas Reid, who claims that when a proposition is believed so strongly and by so many people, the burden of proof is on the skeptical theory. Hell, even Hume admits he couldn't reason his way to actually doubting free will in his mundane affairs! Read Peter van Inwagen if you need more assurance against determinism.

Have I found myself subject to the Barnum effect here or is this picture describing a very specific and not generally relatable archetype?

>lack of communicability
"oh em GEE, mercury's totally in retrograde rn!!!"
>family feels like strangers
Yeah, ICP made a really strong case for this in their song "Homies." Total loomers.
>can't find him on the internet
Only weirdos are concerned with privacy, especially after the 2013 surveillance leaks.
>ambiguously autistic
Everyone now is retreating into their personal world (whether or not they curate it), and so is autistic.
>has never owned an umbrella
lol Africans are loomers

Yeah anon, I think you're on to something. The -oomer memes reek of Barnum-type bullshit.

Separate yourself from desires and outside distractions, seek deep within, there the answer lies.

Read this and perhaps and some footnotes along with it as it gets dense and it helps. I am praying for your search anon as i have gone down this road before

Respectfully disagree. The Sickness unto Death is much more appropriate for this kind of concern. Concluding Unscientific Postscript is probably the richest defense of subjectivity we have. Fear and Trembling has the lingering influence of Hegel too much for an introduction; I have no idea why it gets pushed as such.

Very true. The one i have is both in one book so i kind of conflate them as the same work. I do agree with you

there is no solution to the problem of biological and/or physical determinism.
Physical determinism has a strong case, but even if we ignore this, we are still animals with desires outside of a control, be it shelter, food, love, community, sex, novelty etc.

If a way to modify the organism is found how is that not a solution? If you're able to arbitrarily modify your own brain doesn't that cut out the middle man?
