Is he the most controversial author people seem to absolutely love him or think he's overrated. I've never met someone in between

Well lit, is he?

It's like 60% who admire it, 20% who admire it but still resent how much of a dick he was, and 20% who despise him thoroughly, perhaps less. He's not really that controversial, try Céline.

Essentially the difference is between those who've read him and those who don't know how to read

Again, the difference is essentially between those who have experienced him and those who don't know how

Excellent psychologist. Terrible thinker.

His later philosophy was beyond naive.

His philosophy before that is excellent and really well articulated. Its a shame such a sharp writer went absolutely batshit

I loved AK and W&P but they are very similar to each other. Svestapol is my favorite work of his

Saying someone is overrated is a very mild take, far from what I'd consider to be controversial
Pick one that is either loved or hated

I mean people tend to think he's very overrated and flat out think he's a scumbag

What do you mean? If you are real Christian, it makes no sense not to support Tolstoy's non-resistance. Any violence taints your soul in the eyes of God and it doesn't matter whether it's "justified" self-defence or not (although killing people on the basis of their nationality or class is absolutely not justified in any case). Life is short but soul is eternal, a simple take which Tolstoy followed it with iron logic

>> No.16543035

>>16541565
Anyone who has actually read Tolstoy and who isn't a brainlet adores him.

>>16542181
And there is nothing wrong with naivety. "become like little children", this is the key here. Do not resist evil, allow evil to be done to you, break the cycle of violence though your own martyrdom. This is the spirit of early Christianity and it is indeed the truth.
