Does anybody have experience with Amazon's used book buying option? Did the condition match your expectation?

Yes I’ve never had a problem. Check ebay, bookfinder, betterworldbooks though you can often find stuff even cheaper those

I buy on eBay 99% of the time, fuck the big A, help local business and libraries.
If it's pretty cheap like pic related just give it a shot.

Yeah they were fine. I've found lower prices on ebay like the other anon mentioned.

Dude everyone single one of those sellers listed in the OP is a small business or a fucking charity.

I've never had trouble. Just bear in mind that "acceptable" is the lowest option.

I prefer ebay too because you can get a pic of the item.
Many times on amazon I bought a used book listed under a certain edition and received a different edition in the mail because the seller assumed nobody would care.

Surely nobody could degrade a book to the point where it is unreadable.

see, due to german correctness autism this never happened to me

More or less same, and I've bought a lot of books this way. Once or twice a dust cover was missing, even though not mentioned -- I don't know if I would have gotten anywhere if I had tried to make a fuss, I didn't care enough at the time

Usually they're fine, but make sure you check the seller's feedback rating--some of them popped up or went bust during the pandemic, and are just taking cash. Anything under 85% positive or under 100 ratings, don't touch them. And as others said, always grab the ISBN-13, toss it in Bookfinder.com, and make sure you're getting the lowest price. I just ordered six books using amazon new, used marketplace, co.uk (often foreign amazons have stuff your country is sold out of, or much better deals), ABE books, Alibris, etc.
I have bought hundreds of books through amazon marketplace, and the good experiences vastly outweigh the bad (and I have rarely been unable to get a refund if there was an issue). Never buy anything under "good" condition unless you have no other choice and are prepared for the battered "acceptable" sadness.

P.S> I used to use Ebay, but I'm in Canada, and o0nce the shipping skyrocketed several years back, it became 95% pointless overnight. All book costs were doubled or tripled for me by that. UK still has cheap book rates to me, though.
