Well, it's my own recommendation. You can read FN without the Bataille book, but that seems like the right order to place it in. Thirst is a lot about Kant, whom Land first broaches in the first essays of FN; while the next two essays after Spirit and Teeth (Shamanic Nietzsche, After the Law) are both about Bataille, but were published a bit after Thirst. Mind you that the ordering of FN is not completely chronological (going off the sources): they first present the Kant-Heidegger-Bataille material before getting to the Deleuze-cybernetics material, though Making It with Death was published the same year as the Bataille book, and Circuitries and Machinic Desire before After the Law. In that regard, "Spirit and Teeth" was also published the year after Thirst (but who knows when it was first written - it seems to still come out of his thesis material), but since it's not about Bataille but shares the same "aesthetic" (with Rimbaud too), it seems to me like a good place before which to sandwich his book among the other essays.
