I'm rereading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and just realized that the monster is an incel. He terrifies women just by his horrid appearance causing them to either flee or faint, later he frames a woman for murder because he realized that human women will always be terrified of him, he even demands from Victor Frankenstein to create for him a female version of what he is with the same defects.

In chapter 17, the monster demands that: "You must create a female for me, with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being. This you alone can do; and I demand it of you as a right which you must not refuse to concede."

However, the moment that I realized that the monster was an incel was at the end of chapter 16 when he frames Justine:

"'The sleeper stirred; a thrill of terror ran through me. Should she indeed awake, and see me, and curse me, and denounce the murderer? Thus would she assuredly act, if her darkened eyes opened, and she beheld me. The thought was madness; it stirred the fiend within me—not I, but she shall suffer: the murder I have committed because I am for ever robbed of all that she could give me, she shall atone. The crime had its source in her: be hers the punishment! Thanks to the lessons of Felix and the sanguinary laws of man, I had learned now to work mischief. I bent over her, and placed the portrait securely in one of the folds of her dress. She moved again, and I fled."

It kind of reminds me of Elliot Rodgers and how he hates women because they wouldn't go out with him no matter how hard he tried to be an alpha male. The same kind of rage what was in Elliot Rodger is kind of similar to Frankenstein's monster who even set fire to a cottage and retreated deep into the woods and began howling in pain after being rejected by the De Lacey family.

Anybody else think it is weird that the monster didn't commit suicide after reading Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther.

This is a very interesting and timely take, developed with persuasive detail. Anon, you should write it up as an article for Slate or some other likely outlet (I could certainly see Huffington Post publishing such an article (if they're still in business)).

And the final point could be that incels are *worse* monsters than Frankenstein's monster -- they go so far as to *kill* women, rather than merely setting them up for a murder charge.

I didn't really give much thought to the picture that I used. When I do take a good look at it, I just get the feeling that if the woman just kicks or punches the incel in the picture, the incel would go down real quick.

And yeah, there is a moral obligation to help your fellow human being. The incel could have just walked away instead of raping her. Just think of what is going to happen to him in prison since serial killers and rapists tend to be the targets of most of the prison population.
