Is this kid you? I keep seeing him posted in bookshelf threads since the start of this year.

jesus christ this thread is gay as fuck already and its only 3 posts in, im out of here BYE

>> No.16513966

You don't need to be worried at all by the look of it. It is a thick piece of wood that has probably warped somewhat under the weight and perhaps to moisture/temp fluctuations. It doesn't look like it's about to yield to the tension.
If you're worried, you could just cut a 2x2 a millimeter or so longer than the height of the shelf, take the top books off and slip it down the middle to act as a discreet support.

>> No.16514000

>>16513966
Actually, on second thought, this is a bad idea as it would direct the weight on the upper shelf onto the lower, essentially doubling the lower shelf's load. Ignore that recommendation.

Shelves of sawdust and glue will do that. Worry when they start to crush the books though.

put another support column below that shelf as well then. support columns all the way down.

Unironically this time:
Mathfag here. I read Elements, Archimedes and first 4 books of Apollonius of Perga before reading Heath's history of greek mathematics. The "history" books are pretty dry (vol. 2 is worse in this regard) and there wouldn't be any shame in getting sick of it if you aren't a total autist.

I'd be interested in any more modern/pop counterpart of the History of Greek Mathematics if I ever went on another greek mathematics kick.

Ty, fren

Yeah, >>16514097 would work, but they would need to be equally compressed all the way down. This will obviously require more wood, and may be more challenging given the warping and tolerances involved. Any disparity would mean that one shelf would bear a disproportionate load and may fail.

The wood's thicc af though, so I really can't imagine it's going to buckle, unless OP is hiding all the books he's stacked on top.

Not at all. The bookshelf is obviously made of some shitty particleboard.

My ikea shelves are warped, but holding. My self-built pine shelf has longer spans and no warping. doesn't take much effert to build a shelf. its baby's first diy project

Ordered the pair from some German merchant a while back. At 50$ for both, it was a really good deal. Luckily, neither were damaged in the shipping. It was a close one though, they were nearly falling out of their package on arrival.
