Its nothing supernatural or magic, I believe we're in a machine built by living things that are product of evolution, in simple terms I'd define its purpose as quality control and as a training tool for a civilization that has to go out of its way to teach its children the machines and systems only work because someone or something keeps them running and that its not magic, to make sure they understand the real nature of the underlying universe despite living in what could be described as a "fantasy world"
