Is this a good book to start with if I want to to get into Roman literature?

I'd recommend starting with The Twelve Caesars by Suetonius or The War with Hannibal by Livy (the Penguin Classic editions have good translations of both). IMO I think they are the most engaging places to start, after that maybe read Herodotus and Plutarch. Cheers.

Not really. I'd more recommend Suetonius for the history side of Roman literature. Livy I'd recommend you save until a little later on. Alternatively, try Eutropius. He's good if you want a basic rundown of Roman history in a short amount of time (his work is around 200 pages long or so).
