How do you guys get the motivation to read when life doesn't have any color anymore? I want to lose myself in a good book but I'm just so tired and bored all of the time.

Depressed people are mentally and thereby physically unable to read. If you are able to read, then it follows that you are not depressed.

I read Harry Potter fanfic if I ever feel like I want to read something for pleasure when I'm in a funk. Bugman take, I know. But it takes me to my childhood, into a world that all must admit is very comfy. And fanfic reading/writing consumed my high-school years; I feel like a kid when I do it.

Rooting for you OP. We're all gonna make it.

Go to the gym or go running 3x per week, make sure you are getting 7-9 hours of sleep per night, eat less sugar and get all your micronutrients, and spend at least a few hours per week in the company of friends.

This is not what most people want to hear because it requires action but I believe much of the listless depression common to this generation is due to lifestyle factors. Obviously if you have legitimate chemical disorders seek help but self care will put the fire back in your heart and the color in your eyes, and reading will feel good again.

Whenever I find it hard to read due to depression I have worked out a system where I read books that are 200 pages or less and fairly pulpy. By the time I have read about 5 of these my depressed state has usually changed and I start looking for something deeper and more interesting to sink my teeth into because my love for reading has been renewed and I feel better.

I don't have much to recommend you, as my interests are quite narrow, but you can always try going through genre tags on websites with books for download and drop anything you just don't feel.
As for what I like, there's Agatha Christie's work, Fantômas by Souvestre/Allain, Arsene Lupin by Leblanc, Maigret series by Georges Simenon...

get an e-reader. I wasn't able to read for a long time- and finally after hemming and hawing for months and months, I finally shelled out the cash to buy a kindle. The first time I turned it on and could actually read? I cried.

I have a couple theories, but mostly, I think it has to do with the fact that when you're reading off of an e-reader, you're only confronted with a small section of text. Without pages, you don't have to constantly be aware of how much you've read and how much you still have left to read- you only have to read as much text as is on the screen. It keeps you from being overwhelmed and makes it a lot easier.

>> No.16409525

Eat high meat (no joke). Search for high meat on youtube to get a first impression, it really helps for depression, cures it even for several weeks when you eat it once.
There was also an article in Nature in the end of 2019 that stated that depression is directly linked to your gut flora.

Lately I've been prepping my meals in the morning for the whole day, and it's been helping a lot. A lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meat and complex carbs. I'm on meds, of course, but eating well definitely helps.

It's just kind of a catch 22- when I'm in a depressive phase, I don't have the energy to cook well.

Look man, I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it. If you're eating like a cave man (which I fully endorse) then you'd be eating mostly plants. There's no way hunters and gatherers could subsist entirely on meat, and I refuse to eat that much meat. My lifestyle doesn't support an entirely meat based diet and frankly, I don't want to.

The butter is just cope. If we would live in an ideal environment like our ancestors did we wouldn't need it but we are exposed to many toxins and the raw fat from the butter is just for this situation because it bounds to the toxins and your body can better exude them.
