They were decent at explaining why they didn't believe in certain major religions, but they never were able to explain why being an atheist was a good life

because that's down to the individual atheist. atheists have nothing in common except a lack of belief in a god or gods. they don't share a political/philosophical/sociological point of view, except perhaps being slightly more in favour of individual freedoms than religious people.

I heard an interesting theory that many "new atheists" were motivated by the belief that women wouldn't fuck them due to the woman's religion. Then God got BTFO and women everywhere were freed from backwards religious control of their sexuality, but the men still weren't getting laid. Either they doubled down with more women's rights, no more slut shaming, free birth control etc, or they became disillusioned with the project of "liberating women" and took the red pill offered by the manosphere.
Actually I made half of that up and it's probably all bullshit, but it's interesting to think about.
