Not dead. Still great jazz being made. It's not as popular as it used to be because shitty mass produced pop and rap that rests on the main vocalist's personality is much easier to sell, and cheaper and easier to produce.
What baffles me is how many "woke" racists insist that jazz is tame and "white" and boring. Fucking disgusting.

>> No.16386848

It was appropriated, if anything, as dance music as many if not most of the big swing bands of the 20s and 30s were Jewish/white led. When bebop came out it was a black innovation, which led to every other iteration of bop culminating in extreme free jazz (until say the late 60s when another wave of white Jews moved in on it)---very few whites were involved in the radical transformations of jazz in the 40s and late 50s, or if they were only as sidemen (Al Haig, Charlie Hayden). In fact, the whites capitalised off black experimentation alienating the audience by producing melodic easily consumable middle American 'danceable' living room party 'jazz' from the likes of Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck etc.

from physical and technical expertise, to compositional expertise, from ass shaking popular music to noise poems, jazz already fucking did it and they exhausted the possibilities of jazz as popular music - that musicians could make a life in. of course jazz isnt dead. painting isnt dead. etc. theres just no one fucking listening. shits too hard for people.

Personally, aside from Brazilian Jazz, my favorites are all experimental blacks.
sun ra may be overly prolific but the works of his I like, I like very much. He was active beginning in the 30s. Eric Dolphy is another favorite of mine. Very “high art” yet also very emotive and intimate. He is also black. Fire Waltz is very fun yet stylistically and tonally, it slices the listener with constant contrasts between dissonance and aggressively catchy hardbop/postbop/nignogbeepbop licks/melodies/riffs/noodles. To call the music of these experimental negros “not emotive” because the experimentation goes over your head (of course it would, if you think black man jazz is all for dancing, then you clearly dont even have an idea of what the traditional format is like. How could you possibly understand the experimentation if you don’t even know the traditional formats it refers to exist?) is just sad, anon. Are you white and harboring white guilt? Are you black and harboring some hatred while also harboring a self-loathing that believes blacks cannot be as lofty as whites?

I dont give a shit either way, both positions are gay as fuck, just own up to your existence and aspire to make your ancestors proud

You really don't know much about the history of music huh? Even back in the days of classical music the masses of people weren't listening to classical music. It wasn't popular. No. No it isn’t.

From Karl Polanyi’s The Great Transformation:
>Previously to our time no economy has ever existed that even in principle was controlled by markets . . . [A]lthough the institution of the market was fairly common since the later Stone Age, its role was no more than incidental to economic life . . . [W]hile history and ethnography know of various kinds of economies, most of them comprising the institution of markets, they know of no economy prior to our own, even approximately controlled and regulated by markets . . . . All economic systems known to us up to the end of feudalism in Western Europe were organised either on the principles of reciprocity or redistribution or householding (i.e., production for one's own use) or some combination of the three.

And Kropotkin
>The internal commerce was dealt with entirely by the guilds not by the individual artisans — prices being established by mutual agreement... [A]t the beginning external commerce was dealt with exclusively by the city and it was only later that it became the monopoly of the merchants' guild and later still of individual merchants . . . [T]he provisioning of the principal consumer
goods was always handled by the city, and this custom was preserved in some Swiss towns for corn until the middle of the 19th century

>> No.16394337

>No. No it isn’t.
Capitalism is defined as a system where the means of production lie in primarily private hands, there's a free flow of capital and therefore by extension market forces apply.

"State controlled capitalism," especially considering that the Warsaw Pact economies were centrally planned, is an oxymoron.

High culture can only exists when the form of globalisation that we are having now is fucking dead on the ground wriggling in agony.
Globalisation with active physical effort is the only way for it to work.
Easy access to influences from other nation leads to colonial retardation (nation with already big influence and netizens with high internet literacy influencing small nations with high aesthetics resulting in homogeneity) instead of a healthy osmosis from all sides.
The internet killed high culture.
