Why almost no one read/produce poetry anymore? Is it becoming a dead form of art, like epics? I feel like we will never have another Borges, Drummond or Bryon. Why do you guys don't read poetry? And why do you do? What made it become overshadowed, obsolete for the average reader? I'm not saying there are absolutely no good poets nowadays, but they are much more irrelevant than before.

Because all that is published is shitty free verse. Anglo Modernism killed poetry.

Free verse itself isn't bad, but it's really easy to make shit with it because you don't really need to know much about the genre. Personally, it's my favorite type of poetry to read besides epics, but there should still be some conservatives out there, right?

Accurate diagnosis.

I mean, free verse is alright but most newer poems are *shitty* free verse.

Because people need money to live and making poems doesn’t generate much money.
It is that simple

Most people don't write for money, and most books published barely generate any profit for the author. When you consider the author took hundreds of hours in a book, you can assume they are working for less than a minimal wage even.

Mate, poetry has never made you rich. Shakespeare went from poet to playwright precisely because he was't making bank.
