Are there any writers/theorists who may be regarded as pessimistic Marxists? That is, they accept the scientific validity of Marxist theory (diamat + Marxist economic theory) but are very pessimistic about the kind of society that would arise out of the final Hegelian sublation? I think 20th century attests to the fact that material progress doesn't necessarily entail a morally superior society, if communism allows for the fullest development of material productive forces then one can only imagine the kind of degenerate lifestyle most people would lead under it. I've heard that Adorno expressed similar sentiments, is there anyone else?
