I loved this book but Asmiov made Seldon too much of a fucking wizard
>Seldon predicts that the Foundation will be able to play the rival planets off eachother
>Seldon predicts that Hardin will come up with the idea to start a religion
>Seldon predicts that Hardin will be able to pull a coup (not to mention knowing the exact date it happens)
>Seldon predicts that the Foundation will ditch religion in favor of trade

All of the above only happened due to the intelligence/luck of individual and didn't happen due to mass action, the thing Seldon is supposed to be able to predict. Remove Hardin from the equation and the Foundation would've died not once but twice.

This has me gripped throughout the novel. The ending completely caught me off guard. How are the sequels?

Bel Riose is one of my all time favorite fictional soldiers.

Almost everything from Vernor Vinge, Harry Turtledove and John Ringo is what I'd consider top shelf stuff, right now I am re-reading Ringo's Looking Glass series. Also, The Mote in God's Eye, Footfall, Lucifer's Hammer from Niven and Pournelle, The Forever War and The Coming from Joe Haldeman are gud

I swear that the only people who actually read on this board mostly read escapist fiction. For me the last book I couldn't put down was Dune.

I'm starting to get into this.
I've read the robot books, and I've read from foundation on. This is building toward something and I'm enjoying it but I'm worried I'm gonna be disappointed by it. Tell me I'm wrong

Thomas Harris' HANNIBAL, for good or ill.

Yes. In the second book (foundation and empire) a serious curve ball gets thrown via the mule. Seldon did not predict him since he's a mutant.

I liked the build up and finale. If you need action from an Asimov story, you have to image it after reading. Was good for me.

There are 7 books only about the foundation, and i'm not including the extended foundantion universe, i.e the robots novels that wrap everything.

Thus fare ive found the first book is the worst one.
Foundation and empire, second foundation, and foundations edge are all better imo.

Be straight with me, could Foundation receive the same sfx treatment as the new Dune? I want to read something epic but I fear that hard science-fiction (KEK) equates to nothing but old people talking and the occational Star Trek blaster battle.

I read everything apart from the first chapter in one day. Proper had me hooked and that. I'd also say The Red and the Black and The Karamazov Brothers, I could read hundreds of pages of these in one go and not feel any kind of fatigue or need to take a break.

The only part of Foundation that could be reasonably adapted and be both accurate and entertaining to watch would be The Mule.

>> No.16380549

>>16380275
Foundation is mainly people talking, but that's Asimov. He presents ideas/problems and theyre discussed and resolved
The idea of a dying multi generational empire needing to be revived via pre built centers of knowledge to prevent 30 milleniums worth of dark ages is cool and certainly "epic". Tech gets presented in it too, but there is no giant sand worms or spice. It's less flashy than other sci fi.
The series is cool and if you like sci fi I do recommend it. First book is the worst one though and I imagine Apple (which is currently adapting it into a show) will adapt it improperly.

I mean its getting adapted but unlike dune it looks like absolute trash so far
