He has written a lot on scholarship and art, but mostly on music and painting to my knowledge.

Did he actually say anything about reading and writing fiction?

He loved Middlemarch. I think he also liked Shakespeare's stuff.

He did. He also began liking Leopardi but later expressed strong doubts. Eckermann's Conversations with Goethe he once called the greatest book in German- and though it's really good, Boswell's Life of SJ is every bit as good.

Didn't he write a pretty decent-sized commentary on Hamlet? I think it's somewhat substantial, I've seen it mentioned a few times on /lit/.

You dingbat! Read the way he writes. A great deal of his project is on hermeneutics and how to read, “do you understand? Have I been understood?!” That constant bombardment of hermeneutical questions. Read him, read him, read him. It’s all there, ask him questions, don’t expect to be told anything. Fuck.

He seemed to have been a fan, he cites Goethe and Dostoevsky as influences.

You fucking moron. It's "the Gay Science" - the science of BEING gay. You don't have to be an actual scientist to ride that tiger
