Nobody wants to admit it, but all 4chan boards share the same userbase of nerds who know more about video games, anime, and TV than they do about literature, history, or science. The very thread is only attracting people because the OP post contains the word "anime."
You can only get replies on /lit/ by assuming the people reading your OP post haven't read the book you're talking about. I find that including a summary of the plot or a quote people can argue about helps. The truth about this place is that while most of the posters aren't well-read or even intelligent, they come here because they think it's 4chan's "intellectual board" and that they can learn something from lurking.
If you want replies, you have to give them what they want and act like an intellectual with something to share. Don't start threads with open-ended questions about a book you've read when you could be sharing statements instead. If you say "I read ___, what does /lit/ think of it?" all you're going to get is a bunch of replies from either people who've heard the book is pretty good and want to read it, or people who've read it and think it's pretty good.
One of these days I'm going to start following my own advice and get people on this dump to start memeing about my favorite books instead of just what's popular on twitter, just you wait.

>There are more books than anime
>It takes longer to read a book that watch a show
>People will have read less of an even larger pool of possible discussion subject
>/lit/ is flooded with newfags who haven't read much
>There has been a degradation in board culture so there isn't a "meme trilogy" or common expected to read list anymore.
>even those who do read are reticent for whatever reason or don't coincide on the board at the same time
>/lit/ has become a fast board so the above returning before thread dead is less likely.
So there many factors are conspiring against decent discussion about specific books on /lit/. But a thread also quickly dies on /a/ if the show is 4+ years old and not a fan favourite.

Because there are many midwits on /lit/ who don’t read anything, they only wish to discuss abstract concepts and broad simplifications of philosophical topics that they read on Wikipedia or watched some histrionic video about on YouTube. The problem is that there is not strong enough gatekeeping to make sure people have actually read what they wish to discuss.

The medium of communication is more important and influential than the content of the medium itself. Thus, in OP’s quandary they are not taking into account the obvious differences in long form literature and writing when compared to a visual short form animated medium. The rate of consumption of these two media are performed at dramatically different rates. Their target audiences are radically different. The point of discussion of these mediums are different as well. Which brings us to the preferred medium of communicating one’s interest in the media itself, as the previous poster so graciously pointed out, 4chan. What fundamental constraints and frameworks do you think 4chan as a medium of communicative exchange extols? How does it’s make up drive discourse and how does it fundamentally force posters to interact with it in certain ways?

NHK was a great animu. People hate the ending, but I think it was brilliant. Satou had all those heroic phantasies, but in the end his suicide didn't work, which was his final attempt at at doing something extreme, something that in his mind would elevate his life. And then in the end he became a traffic officer, very mundane job.The contrast between his delusions of grandeur and the boring, mundane and harsh, but only harsh in a boring way, reality.
