Like pic related for drawing. What books are the 'bibles' of their respective subject, as in they are required reading?

I hear pic related described that way often. I'm only on Chapter 1 so I can't confirm yet.

Am programmer, can confirm that this is just a /g/ meme though and actually isn't very relevant for programming or computers outside of computer science related mathematics

As opposed to uncertain subjects? The only uncertain subject is the topic of this thread. "List the best things in every field of human endeavor, go!" Fuck outta here.

I have seen it praised heavily outside /g/ though.

Seems to be a pretty popular book if you want to understand programming as a discipline on a more fundamental level than duck taping libraries for your webapp?

If you actually want to learn a programming language checkout "automate the boring stuff" for python.

Structure and Interpretation is technically a book on programming but it's studied more as an introductory comp sci textbook from what I've seen. Which is obviously important but if you just want to learn to write programs you can go with the aforementioned

What's up with the alchemical iconography on the cover? I've been into the syncretism of computer tech and occultism, but not sure where to start - kinda tech illiterate.

it's an excellent introductory textbook to programming and has nothing to do with "computer science related mathematics"
for things other than introductory programming, there are better books, which are not meant to be introductory programming textbooks

The Art of Computer Programming much better fits as the 'bible' of programming, but like the actual Bible it's not a beginner work and requires a lot of context.
