Are there books about memes?
Does the study of memes fall under cybernetics?
Do I need to read Jung to understand archetypical memes?
I feel like there could be pages written about internet culture but all the boomers don't care and the zoomers... lets not talk about them.

These memes are not directly archetypal in the same way dreams or historical cultural images can be. They are references to transient ideas and movements within our specific culture. You can see this most clearly with the zoomer. The zoomer is the zeitgeist of the postmillennial - a shallow, conflict-avoidant, unfocused, but friendly person who has blocked out the complexity of the world and retreated into an egoistic, but toothless, subjectivity.
The doomer and the chad are the spectrum of possibility for millennial manhood. These are the people who are now in their late 20s/early 30s, and witnessing the rise of the zoomer. They see themselves getting older but feel they still lack a clearly defined cultural role. The paradigm is something like "give up it's not worth it" vs "our cultural hero systems are fucked, but still worth winning". On the doomer side would be a movement like MGTOW, with it's antithesis being TheRedPill and pickup artistry. This antithesis however is still embedded within the horizon of the millennial (at least with respect to the online type who recognizes these memes), and for the reason the two sides should not be seen as enemies since the spectrum itself is a part of this worldview.

Wojak and pepe cancer was a reaction to reddit stealing everything 4chan made. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mghhLqu31cQ was the end of old 4chan humor and the beginning of irony and post irony 4chan. People forget that why poopoo peepee memes were made. To ensure reddit would NEVER take pepe from us. Of course it didn't work in the end, not entirely anyways.

To be honest, old 4chan humor wasn't that funny. lolsorandum was destined to die, regardless of reddit cancer.

I was thinking about this recently, and while the most popular usage of "meme" you see online doesn't seem to fully match the intended definition, there are actually other usages that do. For instance, "Falling for the ___ meme" lines up the true meaning almost exactly, right? The only difference would be that a meme isn't necessarily bad, but calling something a meme like this implies that it's bad. Otherwise they're conveying the same thing.

Does anyone else get weirded out by 4chans outsized cultural influence? Like the whole virgin/Chad thing, as a cultural trope and specifically as a meme format, was the brainchild of some neurotic incel on r9k but is now understood as truth by the entirety of America's youth and beyond. It's so bizarre seeing normies now adopting memes that I witnessed the birth of three or four years ago on 4chan.

Imo the female doomer is just a satirical expression of the asymmetrical nature of suffering experienced in men and women respectively, its not just an art hoe thing about being deep. As a result of equality and feminism, the average current year female is extremely delusional about her sexual and human value resulting in a unacceptable level of self entitlement. This is stratified by her evolutionary selective strategy of using herself as an object of arousal for the securement of resources she would be unable to obtain herself (i.e. hunting and killing a large animal). When paired with modern psychological schemata and zeitgeist, the female is thus stuck in an endless conundrum of insatiable desire versus limited cabaility. As better prospects become apparant to her, she will falsely believe that she is entitled to pursue and secure them but will always meet her max potential when she wants what she cant have, and does not want, what she can already have. The sensation that she feels as a result of her dissatisfaction with her own mating performance and inability to secure the better Chad is childishly labeled "suffering" spawning the much annoying female doomer; her problems are laughable and her troubles pale compared to what the doomer man feels; a level of despair the female mind just hasnt biologically evolved to grasp.

>> No.16213723

>>16213551
That's a really good take but from my (admittedly average) experience both aspects are for the most part interchangeable. The female doomer sees her perceived "suffering" as a tool for self-diferentiation, to paint herself as a tortured creative soul neglected by society for her intellect. Of course that's rarely genuine and, like you pointed out, of any real consequence because the judgments of value attributed to women are primarly based on their attractiviness while for men it's a lot more based on his achievements, both in a material and intellectual way.
Of course there are exceptions but I simply can't recall ever finding a female doomer whose feeling of existential dread amounted to anything more than "I haven't been approached by someone I find attractive in a certain (usually short) period of time", and when they realize that they can get attention from people she's more than willing to use it as an accessory. Even the ones that are actually depressed or suicidal still use this feeling as means for attention (and an eventual cry for help) because they assume (or more accurately, know) that someone will willingly try to fix their problems for them.

in my experience, older memes actually tended to lack emotional depth and were mostly used for their sheer novelty or ingroup signaling. that is, they were mostly just funny because they were wacky zany lolsorandom shit or because they were *our* wacky zany lolsorandom shit, not because they represented emotional qualities implicitly understood by the people who used them - they didn't really have any such qualities to speak of. this is perhaps attested to by the fact that the memes on the left rarely had any substantial variations on them. they were put into new contexts, but this was mostly just out of novelty, the punchline of a joke, rather than to be able to express something fundamentally different
newer memes, having settled on a definite form (wojak/pepe) were able to construct on top of them basically an entire mythos of characters able to express complex sentiments and abstract emotional qualities that would just be completely impossible with the earlier ones. how would you do something like chadface posting with the characters on the left? how would you express something like *DING DING DING* AHEM PLEASE SIT DOWN, I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU ALL? you just can't really construct a post that has the same "feel" to it as much of the current posting style has by using the older generation of memes, and it's not because they're out of style and most people don't recognize them - i mean, even at the time they were popular, it wouldn't be possible, because the pieces just aren't there for it. since they aren't particularly expressive and novelty only lasts so long, it's no wonder why they died out and were replaced by something more versatile, that allowed for more subtle variations
i used to think things were better then than today but i've realized it's just nostalgia, of course the world seemed like a better place when i was in high school and all i had to worry about was dumb high schooler shit like getting a girlfriend or drinking with my friends or my grades instead of today ten or fifteen years later when i'm an adult with adult problems and my parents are old and i have to worry about money and jobs and niggers and leftists and god knows what else is out there lurking in the darkness for me

Nah I feel like Chad vs. Virgin is more interesting though as it's almost mocking the dichotomy between nerds and jocks itself and subverting that dichotomy by making the nerd representative of normal people and the Chad, the character we value as a society, being overly extreme (in some iterations of the meme).

Virgin vs. Chad is more self-aware, self-referential, and meta than Nerds vs. Jocks.
