After reading Kant, does anybody else kinda cringe when reading earlier philosophers?

yes, but I also feel the same about later philosophers. He still mogs us intellectually from the tomb.

Welcome to analytical philosophy, where the actual progression of the field takes place. Don't be confused by the continentals, they are merely writing prose. They seek to emotionally appeal to you and produce a resounding "yes I've found it" reaction from you from their poetry(see:Hegel) but this is of no true relation to philosophy. You have philosophy, and you have art.

I'm pretty sure Kant was born in the continent tho.

Hume is the best philosopher and the one that invented the way the modern man thinks today. None of Kant's argument are believed by the large majority of people.

>Before passing on to consider time, however, it may be pointed out that the inexistence of an 'empty space' is enough to expose the absurdity of one of Kant's too famous cosmological antinomies: to ask 'whether the world is infinite or whether it is limited within space' is a question that has absolutely no meaning. Space cannot possibly extend beyond the world in order to contain it, because an empty space would then be in question, and emptiness cannot contain anything: on the contrary, it is space that is in the world, that is to say, in manifestation, and if consideration be confined to the domain of corporeal manifestation alone, it can be said that space is coextensive with this world, because it is one of its conditions; but this world is no more infinite than is space itself, for, like space, it does not contain every possibility, but only represents a certain particular order of possibilities, and it is limited by the determinations that constitute its very nature.

Oh yes, empty boxes can't exist, since they would not contain anything.

Also, how would you aquire knowledge of space? Does "space" reacts with the senses in any way? Can you even perceive any physical object at all without a previous a priori notion of space?

Boxes without any contents inside are not the "empty space" whose existence Guenon refutes but are rather just boxes.

Why can't space exist without matter in it? Our current physical theories tell us that most of space is vacua with nothing in it. Also, how would a human aquire knowledge of space?

His aesthetics is a shameless plagiarism of Plato, the Platonists and even the stoics expressed similar views over a thousand of years prior

Hume's radical empiricism is so ever-present in society that people are barely able to fathom a framework outside of it, it's as pervasive as disagreeing with enlightenment values about individual rights, people won't take you seriously in any capacity if you disagree with it.

>> No.16173990

>>16173943
not really. if hume's radical empiricism was rampant than nobody would be doing any science.
i guess you would be right if you applied it to anti-intellectual conspiracy folk but the radical empiricism would still apply to them about whether their theories are justified or not

If you think the average person thinks like David Hume nowadays you're on another planet. Empiricism is an epistemology just like rationalism and would be just as incomprehensible to the average person. Try explaining to someone that causality is nothing more than a mental connexion. They'll laugh in your face because everyone nowadays is a physicalist.
