What are some books you like? Your taste for certain prose can probably point you to certain poets.

If you can get any joy out of a translation of something like the Iliad or Beowulf, or reading Shakespeare, then there exists a poet that will give you joy.

I've been the same for a long time and one day it clicked, since then I loved it. If you want to try reading some again there is no pre-cooked recipe but you have to detach yourself from the school-like approach and just try to find something that you find beautiful. If you think that prose can be beautiful, then surely you'll like at least some poets. Follow your taste and try to find a poet that fit, probably not a "difficult" poet (Reverdy did the trick for me, I liked a lot of the pre-surrealist writers and went from there out of curiosity). Read slowly, read aloud even if you feel like it. Don't hesitate to reread what you've just read. Care about the words used, try to see the world with the eyes of the artist.
I hope I convinced you to at least give it another try, it's really worth it and more people need to read poetry.

I'm much more familiar with French poetry but I'll try my best with what I know from British romantic poetry:

Try reading other other poems by Shelley and if you liked one of these, look up their authors. Assuming you can read French Hugo, Lamartine, Vigny, Nerval and Musset are all safe bets when it comes to romanticism, in German Hölderlin and Novalis are also great.

This is the meme answer of why Lolita sucks. And it's partly true.
But on a prose level, it's just really weak. I came in with high expectations hearing that Nabokov is a borderline genius when it comes to crafting words and prose, but there's just something off about how the way he writes. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that English wasn't his first language.
A lot of his sentences are show-offy, using random French phrases for no reason (look ma I'm multilingual) and weird 20 dollar words that throw off the flow of the sentences.

Try coming up with an actual criticism. It's not like anyone follows these charts to a T. They're merely frameworks that make it easier to acquaint oneself with and learn about a specific topic, literary movement, tradition, skill, etc.
Like it or not, there is in most cases an optimal way to work through a subject, learning about concepts that other books discuss, and most books are connected with one another. You're exactly like the fag in the image

I've read most of the books on these charts (and some that arent) and I can assure you Thucydides should not be read as a piece of literature. Its a historical account and gets sadder than a work of fiction with the description of Athens retreat from Syracuse and their soldiers imprisonment in a stone quary after being lied to by the other sides diplomats. A title of literature betrays the weight of the work
