Audible is fucking awesome. It's kinda pricey at first glance, but it usually takes me about a month (or maybe even longer) to finish an audiobook and so I always have a credit or two left over to do whatever the fuck I want with.

I love audiobooks so it's a no-brainer for someone like me.

Wtf dude the Mahabharata is like 500 light years long, nobody reads it let alone reads it before the Gita

You can read the Mahabharata more easily if you get into Indian youtube channels where they follow it like anime. Not joking, they learn it like it's Wookieepedia lore about legendary India or some shit. That might make it more fun to dip into and read over a long period. But anyone who claims to sit down and read it cover to cover has gotta be lying unless they are already deeply educated.

>>16162870
Usually when I see him talked about it's in books that cover his art or his whole period, like in Panofsky or Pacht. I bet you could read the intros to a few books on him on libgen and scan the footnotes for some classic old biography. Strange to say but usually those old, chunky biographies turn out to have been written in the first 60 years of the 20th century, because that's when all the archival material was widely available and there were tons of scholars doing in-depth biographies to make their name. I think they just ran out of figures to write about in that classical biographical style around the 1960s.

The one in this genre I'm seeing is by Baldass (1952), but is in German.

I don't read much, and that's either a cause or a reason of the following:
whenever I do, I need to reread sentences because I can't focus. I tried to focus more on creating pictures in my head as I read, but I still sometimes can't focus on what I'm reading or can't connect a sentence to the previous one (unless I go back). This is very annoying.
Could I have ADHD, or am I just not used to reading? I smoked weed a few times like a month ago, maybe it made me dull... But it's like that pretty often, to greater or lesser degree.

My advice, do the Penguin Russian Course then do the duolingo then do the course again. If you just brute force reading beyond that you can be fine within several months. Russian is deceptively easy if you only want to read it. Things are usually easy to recognize and understand, but hard to use if you are writing/speaking. So i decided i might aswell buy some more books regarding it, and i was wondering what you would recommend. When you think about the academic stigma surrounding the worlds largest receptacle of human knowledge, its actually quite disgusting. Universities just don't want to come to terms with the fact they are wasting money on their pointless and antiquated libraries.

Pages are not a good metric when trying to know how fast you're reading. Instead start calculating how many wpm(words per minute) you're reading.

I can't remember the name of this book.
It's about a boy who was supposed to get superpowers, like his friends and family, on his birthday but he didn't. He was checking for superpowers every morning by stuff like measuring his height or lifting weights. He goes to a school for superheroes (I think?), and on his birthday his school gets attack by some monster or something. I stopped reading right there for whatever reason.
Some more details: The book was very likely to have been published prior to 2012.
The book was also very likely to have been narrated in first person.
There probably had at least one male character and one female character, both students, who get involved in the attack scene of the book. I remember there being a distinct lack of adults actually shown in the story so far, so I doubt there were any teachers in the classroom.
If I had to guess the intended audience's age, it would be for kids 10 - 14.
Unlikely, but I think I remember one student from another class who was overdoing it with the hero act and trying to take charge of the situation. I think he had a sword? Don't focus on this one too much, it is a very vague memory and probably inaccurate.

I want to live a comfy life as a librarian in Spain. What are my chances? How could I go about achieving that? The speaking Spanish part is already covered.

Should I read in my native language (Dutch) or should I read in English?
I was thinking that English might be better because there are more and better translations.
But I'm also at this point where I'm getting better at English than I'm at Dutch, which is worrying.

is Jung a good start to psychology? I've only read one book from Frankl. Do I start with the red book?

If it's written originally in English, read in English. Otherwise I read in my language when possible

>> No.16188727

Yeah, it's a good start. You really don't need to read the Red Book - it's a literary depiction of Jung's own fantasies. The Portable Jung is a good place to start with.

To general psychology not so much.
Freud's General Introduction into Psychoanalysis lectures are a good start and Jung's Man and His Symbols is good route use.

As a side read with Freud's lectures, Stephen Grosz's The Examined Life is pretty good as a "lighter" read.

>> No.16188756

In his essays, Jung often refers to Freud's ideas, so it's good to have a basic grasp since Jung doesn't bother explaining much and is somewhat obscure in his writing.

It's true that Jung refers to Freud in his early/middle writings, but I've found he explains all the background you need though. Not sure what you mean by "obscure" as he is usually very clear (aside from his alchemical writings perhaps).

I read some of the collected works from Symbols of Masculine, and it takes him an aeon before he gets to something mildly interesting.
It's a good collection though, has some interesting stuff on homosexuality.
