Baby reads their first book. Baby now thinks Baby has some profound intellectual insight.

Baby comes on /lit/. Baby spews a bunch of dogshit thinking they have it all figured out.

Based anonymous chad is scrolling through and reads two sentences of their poorly formulated thoughts. Based anonymous chad also sees how their thoughts are not based in reality, but in psychological needs they have. Based anonymous chad posts a single Nietzsche passage which devastates their ill philosophy.

Baby is massively upset at this offense. Striking at their poorly formed idea doesn't just strike at the idea.. it reveals the illnesses in their own thought. Baby mad. Baby now realizes Nietzsche is the big bad enemy who must be erased from history.

Baby doesn't read, so Baby doesn't actually delve into understanding Nietzsche. Instead Baby fails for any argument they can find to destroy Nietzsche.

"B-but he went insane, he was weak!" baby types out, regaining confidence. "Therefore, we can ignore this hack! My world view isn't sick and disgusting, it's still good!"

Baby hits post, assured that Based anonymous chad will repent for his sins against Baby's shitty philosophy. 0 replies.

OP is right and you're all fags. Here's his argument
>"God", "immortality of the soul", "redemption", "beyond" -- Without exception, concepts to which I have never devoted any attention, or time; not even as a child. Perhaps I have never been childlike enough for them?
>I do not by any means know atheism as a result; even less as an event: It is a matter of course with me, from instinct. I am too inquisitive, too questionable, too exuberant to stand for any gross answer. God is a gross answer, an indelicacy against us thinkers - at bottom merely a gross prohibition for us: you shall not think!

>Another question interests me in a much different way: the question of nutrition; the 'salvation of humanity' is much more dependent on this question than on any theological oddity. We can formulate it in rough and ready terms: 'what do you yourself eat in order to achieve the maximum of strength?'
>But my own instincts are profoundly opposed to the English diet too, which in comparison with the German and even the French is a type of 'return to nature', namely to cannibalism; it seems to me that it gives spirit heavy feet - the feet of an Englishwoman . . . The best cuisine is from Piedmont. Alcoholic drinks are bad for me; one glass of wine or beer in the course of a day is more than enough to turn my life into a 'veil of tears'

The problem is that Nietzsche never wanted to talk about humanity as a collective.

In fact, when he spoke of the will to power, and when he spoke of supermen born from a world without religion, he was not speaking of the masses enlightening themselves and finding meaning, but of a small handful of men who were destined to succumb under the boot of the masses or rise above them and use them.

For Nietzsche, humanity as a collective existed either to oppose strong men or to serve them, and nothing else. His criticism of Christianity was based on ideas of Christian goodness, which were supposedly intended to punish those of higher impulses and reward those with vassal souls.

Nietzsche would say, for example, in "will to power", that suffering for others was something anyone could do, but that making others suffer without compassion and even delight in it was greatness.

His social philosophy was basically wallowing in self-hatred and self-love, believing himself smart for seeing the world as he saw it, but weak to apply his beliefs. He was looking for people who really understood him.

He surely looked inferior for being unable to take without giving in return and without regret, unable to stop loving for his own sake, and unable to be that great man for whom he cried out.

What do you mean "failure to prove"? By what standard?
Because in a basic sense there's no absolute way in which anything is proven, in fact most people consider it that science proves nothing and can at best only falsify. So when you come to a philosophy complaining that it fails to prove something, you're making a cheap shot that can be taken at pretty much anything, and you're doing it in a way that betrays naivete on your part.

If you mean that Nietzsche's philosophy doesn't work in practice, you'd be wrong. I believe that's one of the greater reasons for his continuing relevance - he's been inspiring and revelatory for a great many people

Much of Nietzsche's writing presupposes a thoroughgoing skepticism with regard to the foundations of all previous thought - the notions of subject, object, logic, causality, truth, etc.
If the motivation for previous philosophy was not truth (and the motivation for *no* philosophy can be "truth"), then what were they motivated by? It is in response to this question, and as a critique from within this framework, that Nietzsche develops his ideas of power, life-denial/-affirmation, herd morality, etc.
Naturally, if you do NOT align with his skeptical foundations, and still have faith in the good ol' philosophies and their concepts, then Nietzsche will seem nonsensical. Especially so, because for whatever reason much of his explicit writings on his reasons for skepticism are not found in his main works, but in book 3 of The Will to Power.

Nietzsche never asserts that there is no God, though he certainly does not find any given "arguments" for it adequate, nor does he believe that "argument" in general can arrive at universal "Truth". If you think that the notorious "God is dead" statement an assertion of the Truth non-existence of God, then I would urge to consider the obvious difference between the statements "God is dead" and "God does not exist", namely, that the former implies "God was alive". Obviously Nietzsche did not believe this in a literal sense - when he says that God is dead and no one knows yet, he means that the concept of God has ceased to provide the underpinnings of the general morality of society, and is warning of the consequences of this crumbling of foundations. He is far less concerned with the Truth of the belief (because he does not believe in Truth) than with the effects of the belief.
>Philosophy is literally the search of truth.
I'm not a fan of this definition: it presupposes both that there is a universal truth, and that it can be found. But the questioning of these assumptions seems clearly to belong to the domain of philosophy as well. And some thoroughgoing skeptics, in search of the Truth, find themselves forced to reconsider "Truth" itself.

Wasn't the phrase said by a character who was in despair over the idea that God was dead? Wasn't the point of it that a humanity without God would devolve into cruelty, stupidity, and hubris because the vast majority of us needed God to keep us from doing stupid shit?
I don't know why people think Wally Walrus was celebrating that God was dead.
