Then he should probably go back to Marx himself and at least read the capital
From that point on you can go to whomever interests you though I personally really enjoyed gramsci which somebody else has already recommended
The Sowell book which has also been recommended is also unironically pretty solid to read before or after Kolakowski
If your problem is disillusion though, Marixsm is not the cure, Kropotkin's conquest of bread and Seneca's Epistulae are much better
