went to library last week in my hometown in the sticks, walls of smut (kidnapped by billionare werewolf) novels and YA, small selection of penguin classics which on closer inspection turned out to be unread novels by mjugo m'benge and others (harrowing tale of growing up in colonial whatever), clearly ordered in by the shrew librarians. only salvagable selection was the stuff read by middle aged men (local history, books about battles)

I feel roughly the same way when I enter the history section. I'd prefer to read about something like Metternich's diplomacy but I'm stuck with 4,200 different pamphlet-sized books on the battle of Murfreesboro. BoomerBattle cucks were the worst thing to happen to history publishing.

You guys are using libraries wrong. The crap they put out is the crap that people will pick up and check out in large numbers, and that isn't the Illiad. But, they still have the Illiad, usually in a few translations. Put it on hold and pick it up when it's ready. I use the library all the time and I'm usually not inside for more than a minute. Check to see if your public library website subscribes to any academic databases (many do). See if they lend out ebooks. If at the end of all that you really can't find what you're looking for, ask a librarian and more often than not they'll order it. If they dont, see if your local university library has any sort of alumni or other non-student card. Before covid the only thing I've had a hard time tracking down is the Dionysiaca, and I can read it online if I want.

Sometimes I feel as if its a purposeful psyop to encourage people to despise minorities.
