Another of Rocker's books worth reading is "Pioneers of American Freedom":

>The second part deals with American anarchists. Among those covered in the book are Josiah Warren, Stephen Pearl Andrews, Lysander Spooner, William Batchelder Greene, Ezra Heywood, and Benjamin Tucker. Rocker argues that these anarchists' emphasis on "free competition of individual and social forces as something inherent in human nature, which if suppressed will inevitably lead to the destruction of the social equilibrium" distinguishes them from authoritarian socialists. He claims that the problem in modern society is not too much competition, but a lack of it as the result of "the destructive forces of monopoly". Further, Rocker seeks to dispel the myth that radicalism in the United States was merely a foreign import, pointing to the fact that most of the thinkers covered by the book were undoubtedly American by descent and born in the New England states. In fact, he argues, they were active "before any modern radical movements were even thought of in Europe" and they were more influenced by the American Declaration of Independence than by any European thinker.

Well there is a problem with Revolutionary theory in that it requires things to be really, really bad before revolution can occur, which is just something that has never happened under liberalism. The saving grace of liberalism is that through democracy, it has a safety valve in which it can always give the people just enough that they do not fall to revolution. The only time that liberalism has failed against revolutionary ideology, it was defeated by fascism instead, and even then, they were very young, very weak liberal states. This is because fascists are good at working within the system, while communists who work within the system are often corrupted by the system into becoming part of the safety valve. It is possible for the revolution to succeed in a liberal state, even in America, but it requires the situation to deteriorate to one which has never been seen before.

There is none.

There are viable critiques and refutations of certain solutions to how one can achieve communism, but the "communist perspective" is impossible to refute. Being a communist these days isn't about believeing the revolution will be some huge proletariat uprising, etc., it is believing Capitalism is an ultimate failiure. Read Zizek.

For Marxists socialism is the transitionary period that forms a communist socio-economic order from a industrial capitalist one. To make the claim that the soviet union was socialist you must defend the claim that the russian empire had an industrial capitalist economy and that the russian federation has a communist one.

>>16088672
Who came first is really unimportant, the issue that communism faced was the coalition between proto-fascists and social democrats that emerged in inter-war germany. If it hadn't then we would have had a communist germany and a communist world.

All major narratives are ultimately lost, and pursuits of these previous narratives are only done for purely aesthetical reasons. We are all rootless seeking temporary roots and identity in various dumb shit. This is why LARPing is suddenly so popular, people can somewhat fill the void capitalism took away by pretending to be Tradcath, Traditionalist or whatever.

The super strong correlation between mental illness and capitalism is also nothing to ignore.

no socialism and communism are interchangeable terms in marx. Lenin uses socialism as the name for what marx called lower-stage communism, which isn't transitional as much as it is less developed. the transitional stage is the stage after they begin to move from capitalism but haven't yet established socialism
