Why is majority of books written by 1 person when it could be 5 or 10 or 50 authors with todays technology ?

That would be an absolute nightmare.

I would assume that most writers are raging narcissists that don’t like to share. More chill people are probably more likely to work with movies and such.

As of right now I hold the untested belief that true "art" can only be the work of one individual thus for a novel to be a "masterpiece" it must have a sole author.

That's also part of it.

There are many scripts that were written by two or more people, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey.

/lit/ has tried such things in the past: Hypersphere, Legacy of Totalitarianism in a Tundra, Coronameron. Not a great way of writing if you want one cohesive plotline, but great for producing a varied collection of pieces. Also based retards deleting pages or pasting in the entirety of Moby Dick can be an issue.

Stanley Kubrick just director edited it, you don't get arthur Clarke to write screenplay and then have him double up w someone else, much less a director. Other films idk

This. Otherwise it would be too washed out and more a „general concept“, which would make it meaningless. This only works for non-fiction.
