Brazillian literature is specially underrated, 210 million or so people and 0 nobel prizes, with a HUGE body of literature that has no visibility whatsoever internationally. For poetry my go to language is portuguese, a bit biased for being my mother tongue but I know four others, which I hope makes it less biased.

Kinda funny how it isn't even discussed or mentionated in the thread tho, or even in my 4 or so years of /lit/. I never heard no one speak about lusophone authors besides Assis, Saramago and Pessoa. Even then only a few books of them are mentionated, from left to right it's Brás Cubas, Blindness and Book of Disquiet. For a literature board, I think lusos should get a bit more of space besides three books, even tho I quite hate the first kek.

The only good European language are Romance and Hellenic languages. In this order:
1. French.
2. Greek.
3. Italian.
4. Spanish.
5. Portuguese.
Honorable mentions to German and English, which despite being incredibly ugly, gay sounding and clearly inferior to Romance/Hellenic languages, have a sizable amount of literature.

Russia isn't European, so it doesn't count, but it's a trash language anyways. It sounds like garbage and it's a barbarian tongue for toothless peasants. The Nordic languages apart from English/German are irrelevant and just as ugly and gay. The other Slavic languages are just as disgusting as Russian. Turkish is superior to all Slavic languages and Nordic languages and I'm happy they're taking over Germany. Maybe Germany will be nice for once in its history. The semitic languages are vulgar and gross, which is why they had to switch to Greek to write the New Testament. Hebrew and Arabic just aren't fit for God's message/revelation.

Other good languages are Sanskrit and Farsi, but those are specialist languages and well, not European.

I read, even without speaking Portuguese, some of your language's poetry and it's was sublime: Olavo Bilac's Dream of Nero, everything Antero de Quental ever composed, Camoens' epic.
It all started due to me reading and understanding Augusto Gil's masterful: «Batem leve, levemente»
Not to mention the great historical figures and cultural aspects of the Portuguese tradition. The Palace of Queluz is one of my favourite architectural works, dom Pedro II was an exemplary soul, the calzado portugués is a truly beautiful design that I'd love were as popular in the iberosphere.

Not to mention Pessoa and Machado de Assis, the micro-Europe that is southern Brasil, the earliest modern Colonial Empire, the flying Passarola and Santos-Dumont, and so much more.

It's incredible such a small state can boast so much to its name. That being said - I still consider them practically a part of the Spanish nation, in a broader «Las Españas» manner.
