The novel is amazing. The movies are so bad they boggle the mind. Imagine the amount of content cut between the lotr books and movies. Thats how much they cut out for the book. Googled the first one. First 4 pages, a lot of waffle, but mentions a philosopher per page (Nietzsche, Plato, Aquinas....) then gets into more of an academic essay pace. Not too bad overall.
