Orientalist characterizes the Orient negatively, not positively except in the sense that satanism was positive to the Romantics. There's another section where he mentions how the Moors preserved the Roman baths of Spain that Christians had closed in the other parts of the Empire. Islam preserved a greater sense of cleanliness, hygeine, and public health than Medieval Christianity. His argument is that Islam was more Roman than Christianity, more life-affirming through the virtue of cleanliness.

he is right, but not entirely. christianity is religion for the weak, but if you look closer it is essentially religion for the old people. christianity as any decadent religion is logical outcome of technical progress and labour division, and increased life expectancy. Then he ust have forgot about the Byzantine Empire (and by extent the orthodox church) which was a direct descendant of Greek and Roman culture combined. Much, much closer to the Roman and Greek ideal than a religion of nomads. Concerning cleanliness, the standards of hygiene were on par in the Byzantine Empire compared to the time Nietzche lived.

A lot of animosity here. Hes said nothing untrue. Its true that Islam affirms life. They don't have hermits and such. Nor does hassidic Judaism- its all about Joy. The only real way to affirm life is glorify its creator. Nietzsche didn't get this far though- he was to caught up in hating Christianity and overcoming his nihilism- which imo he failed to do.
