I wouldn't call it soothing or enjoyable but it's a very human thing. Remembrance is distinctly human, it is something necessary, it fulfills a need within us.

Having visited a few concentration camps, I can say that I'd much rather people visit Auschwitz than, say, Disneyland.

Creepy sidenote: a lot of the concentration camps sell Fanta at their gift stores. That's right, they're peddling Nazi pop.
