Why do people read horror, /sffg/? What's so enjoyable about it?

I finished Blindsight 30' ago, and before going to bed, as I entered the kitchen to drink some h2o, I saw a shape move clumsily out of a dark corner and for a little over a second I felt my whole blood freeze until I realized it was just my dog. I'm going to sleep now and I haven't been able to stop thinking about all the scary things I've read and seen these last couple of days.
I'm a grown ass man and I'm scared of having a nightmare now. Why do people do this to themselves.

https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/34169/blood-queen-ssyba

Synopsis: Ssyba is a turbulent figure: ruled by hunger and animal fear, ancestor to a prehistoric specie of apex predators, in the present day disgraced to mere pets and curiosities but still very much swayed by an instinctual will. During a night chase she is poisoned, assaulted from the cover of darkness and left dying in the streets. As consciousness streams from the head wound, she is met with a destiny that she can't deny.

The setting presents an Earth burned and rendered sterile. Societies bundle together on the edge of planet-wide deserts. And under the tormenting photon-shower of the sun, a dour plot is struck in order to bring again an ancient dynasty.

Being a hugo tranny is more than a physical reality - it is a state of mind. One day you wake up with a craving for feminist negroid literature and you pick up Jemisin. Before you know it, you grow a vagina, buy a Hugo poster, and start shitting up already shitty fart & fuck general threads.
Suddenly /lit/ transforms into reddit and you realize it has always been reddit. And who is to blame, really? Society, I say. Society and the original hugo tranny. The S on her name is longer, more accentuated. It's not Syba, but Sssss-yba. The Y reads in this case as I from Incel, not I from I-phone. So you read her name as Ss-ee-bah.
Makes a point of her inhuman origin, even though, like most of her specie, she was born and is living among humans

What does a Male MC have over a female MC? Besides she is destined to become the blood-queen, to rule alongside a blood-king....or does she? Anyway her gender is justified for the story that I want to tell. I'm not demanding you like it.
But I am asking you at least give it a try. It's 3 chapters in and I post a chapter every couple of days. I posted on /tg/ and I've gotten fair praise.

Warning, I make use of purple prose. I write very flowery and ornate and that's a stylistic choice. Some of.you might not like it but it serves the more metaphysical parts of the story well.

She is feminine (even if she is killer, mad etc). I don't want that, I want ingenuity that comes from male mc, it is what males do, it is what they are designed to do, explore the world, overcome odds, create things, even if it is hard true males do it and they enjoy doing it. Females might be just as capable but they simply do not want or care about those same things, they are supportive characters at best, and even then it is best not have them, because they change males and make them soft, it is best making male mc a complete outcast (for whatever reasons) and driven only by pure hatred and pure inner power with no interference from females.

I completely understand where you're coming from. The Male brain vs the female brain, but this basically boils down to preference. Why write a white mc vs a black mc? Why this vs what? It's simple preference and you prefer the Male brain (explore the world, overcome odds, create things, even if it is hard true males do it and they enjoy doing it). Which is completely fine by me.
However to write a Male mc is to write a wholly different story altogether from what I'm currently writing, that's just something I'm not going to do right now.

I do have a story with a Male mc, set in the same universe of course, but I want to finish this one before I even attempt to edit and post that one.

But for you everyone with slightly conservative ideas and views is a fascist.
All people like you do is divide the society and take all meaning out of the words "fascist" and "nazi". By the way, my grandpa fought the nazis, commanded a machine gun crew, got awarded some prestigious medals and, unfortunately, lost his leg in the war. He fought to defend his country. But if we look at him and his world view through the eyes of a modern "progressive liberal" he was also a "fascist" and a "literal nazi"

Just finished Words of Radiance. I detested it. It's probably the longest book I've got through and given a negative rating for, but since the only decent part of Way of Kings was the ending I was hoping it would redeem itself. General thoughts:
>Shallan went from annoying to insufferable and a bit of a mary sue, and her dialogue was painstaking to read
>Kaladin overcame his one flaw (because of some bullshit inconsistent epiphany) thus ruining my interest in the character
>every character who died during the book actually survived somehow in the end
>all the underlying mystery and conspiracy was totally disappointing
>every major plot point was 100% predictable from a mile off (there was literally 0 tension about whether Shallan would find the portal and save the army at the end)
>all the good characters are basically jedi now lol ;)
>the prose, word inefficiency, and general paragraph layout was some of the worst I've ever read

>very solid plot and backstory

I would say it's on par with 3 musketeers, but I might be biased because I'm from spain so i like Alatriste's setting a lot. I remember liking a lot ivanhoe but it's been so long that I don't remember much about it desu so I won't compare it.

but it's a great adventure book man, you really can't miss with it, it's very entertaining and quick to get through. the movie captures the setting and spirit of the book pretty well, since you've seen it. but there's not so much focus on boring relationships stuff in the book, that's what made the film kinda boring and too long for me

Even excluding technical issues they had, the Hugos was a shitshow this year. It was hours of GRRM rambling about the history of the award with interruptions by people giving lectures on racism and sexism. The contrast between GRRM's respect for the Hugos and those who came before him and the clear disdain and ungratefulness many of the winners had for them gave me whiplash.

Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation. Not by choice, I can tell you that!

It started when my weirdo classmate, Chiba, tried to save me from a runaway truck and got us both killed instead. Idiot. Then we got transported to another world, which I guess is like an otaku dream come true, or something? Chiba ends up with cheat abilities, and what do I get? Nothing! Lucky me, I get to be a sex worker instead.

Gotta earn money somehow — but since I have to do it, I'm gonna kick ass at it. This world treats women even worse than the one we came from, so things get...rough. Still, I've made friends with some of the girls, and if I can juggle Chiba's idiocy and Sumo the virgin's emotions on top of all the various kinks my customers throw at me, things will be all right...won't they?

Actually, I'll make it a bit more abstract. The issue isn't specifically the left (though they started it), but something that used to be derided here a long time ago: moralfags. That's what woke culture is, primarily, a moral crusade. People who don't want the site turned into a reddit censorship pit end up responding in the wrong way by taking the opposite moral stance and larping as traditionalists or something. dont read this. if anyone recomends this to you tell them to take a hike. author has this storyline/plot line going for a while over multiple books, then someone halfway through decides he dosent like it and cans it. the worst part is, there were chapters from a certain characters point of view, who never existed, while at the same time he never interacted with anyone else, so those chapters never would have happened.

Even Erikson admits that its a bit of a mess and its fine to start with Deadhouse Gates. It doesn't pick off from where Gardens left off, so you won't be missing out on much and even if you don't intend to continue with Malazan then everything to do with The Chain of Dogs and Coltaine is pretty fucking good.
