Is there a worse way to end any story? Why even bother with this trope?

>> No.15984236

Isnt the running theme of pkd that he received visions of alternate realities through dreams?

It can work if part of the point is the author asking the reader "why do you even care?"

Impossible, there is no way that the US could have been occupied by anyone since the civil war.

I agree, but pkd thought he was receiving real visions

That's not true tho. PKD just pokes holes at what we percieve as objective reality.

An generic oracle which reveals the """"inner truth"""" that they're in a book and like "the Nazis didn't win man!".
No different to "it was all a dream, bro"

Hate the book all you want, but if you read it this way then you read it wrong. PKD was playing on all of the WW2 propaganda tropes that surround us to this day. The thesis is not that it is all a dream, but that it is all propaganda.

But the version given by the oracle isn't even what happened in our reality. It's yet another alternate history. iirc the war ends in 47' with Hitler being put on trial, and the Cold War being between the US and Britain.

When Dick was writing this novel, he consulted an Ouija board a couple of times when deciding where to take the plot next. Not his greatest work.

Take for instance the Jew that gets captured - then processed and sent all the fucking way to Germany to get fucking gassed... long after any real hostilities. This is a spoof on the ridiculousness of the death camps. Why send him all the way to Germany? It makes no sense whatsoever. They could have just killed him wherever they found him. PKD's prose is shit so it is easy to miss the fine details in the morass.

>> No.15987809

>>15987756
Why do retards like you still make this argument?
In order for travel between timelines be possible, you have to just write in a new "magic system" around it, while the mechanics of war stay the same because it's our world and they have never been changed in the story. So in order for the US to be occupied they have to make no resistance agains their enemies, which is batshit stupid.

I’m assuming everyone here that likes it are tourists who were into the shitty amazon show because nobody who reads regularly would think the book was anything better then a slightly less than mediocre midwit time killer.

I think that it is the latter. I do not think that he would have come to the conclusion that he did without reading the last two pages.

Lmao, it’s not an argument, it’s me telling you to read a book you didn’t see on television first so you don’t end up schilling dogshit wrapped in a gimmick
