All these so called great philosophers you guys circlejerk and masturbate to from Plato to Nietzsche just regurgitate in a worse form what the Buddha taught and said, why don't you stop wasting your time and read his works instead?

Imagine unironically spending decades of your life reading western philosopher literature trying to figure out the meaning of life, only to eventually realise some Chang from 2500 years ago already figured it out and you wasted all that time, seethe.

His worldview was finely honed, and he was incredibly psychologically resilient. This coupled with his natural gifts made his speech and action manifest his thoughts. All the writings since are better viewed as attempts to assimilate the core of his teaching into the writer’s life. It is immensely difficult and time consuming to arrive at any state approximating that of the Buddha’s.

He literally didn't though. He didn't address most things. It makes sense because getting caught up on them at the baser levels won't get you anywhere but still.

And he would also say just because Buddha didn't address anything, that doesn't mean he didn't address nothing.

Let’s put it to the test. How did Shankara refute Buddhism? By saying there is a self or perceiver, right?

I agree OP. When I experienced my first Jhana I immediately knew I don't need to read or practice anything else in my life and since then I just assume the suttas are just right.

How long do you have to sit to achieve the first Jhana? I can barely sit still for twenty minutes before it becomes intolerable I've read that it a good session generally needs an hour or more.

I think 45 minutes at least, it's around that time when mind starts to really settle and you get your first taste of hindrances slowly dropping. In the end everyone is different and I prefer shorter sessions for example but I use an unusual object (fire kasina)

I've been reading a book on meditation that intertwines with Buddhist teachings and says meditation sessions should be 1-2 hours. To become enlightened it can take up to 7 years with 2 hours of meditation every day.

If any book, text or person tell you such things, just drop it altogether. Meditation is done either guided by a guru (prefferable) so that he can help you shape your practice to best suit you, or on your own, the harder way, by experimenting and seeing what's best for you.
Forcing yourself to meditate in any particular way just because a book said so will only frustrate you further.

I recommend reading Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (pictured) to give you an idea about what meditation should be and feel like.

Of all of the characteristics describing the man, the thiqq thighs, big lats, and long tongue are what weirded you out? Not the fact that a literal reading of these descriptions also has him having hands that hang down to his fucking feet, solid blue sclera, and webbed flipper hands/feet?

Except he literally says how, when he talks about Nirvana. He actually talks about this a lot.

See: The Mind Like Fire Unbound, which quotes heavily from the Pali Canon, namely the passages where the Buddha talks about this.
