I never bought a single textbook in undergrad. I got it from the library, I downloaded a pdf, I borrowed it from someone, or I stood in the university bookstore and took pictures of every assigned page with my phone.

I stopped buying textbooks when half of them weren't even bound anymore. Just a pile of paper that you have to put into a binder. Crafted with care by the guy who assigned you the textbook in the first place. College is such a joke in the 21st century. Most of the learning I've actually done came from writing research papers for money

also i recommend you paypig for the genuine us edition textbooks for the hard upper-division technical classes, if the textbooks are considered "famous" or "classic", it will pay off big time in the long term, those books will become desk references after you leave school and actually have to give a shit about what you are learning

I just got jobs from friends of friends and what not. They knew I'd do it cheap since I love doing research anyways.The most interesting one I did was a paper on the Grecian red clay pottery industry in the colonies of southern Italy. I'm not an art history student so I otherwise would have never had to write on that topic. Was very fascinating

Buy international professor versions off the black market. They normally contain all of the same text + solutions + notes. The only downside is that they are typically in grayscale and printed on cheaper paper. I saved hundreds on my textbooks back in college by doing this.

I usually just google "[name] pdf" if I can't find it on libgen. If I get really desperate, I ask the professor if I can use an older edition to save cash, and then steal that older edition after he says yes in good faith.

libraries usually charge per page, but universities don't. You just gotta be sneaky about it so you dont get in trouble for copying copyrighted material. I worked at a library and before we opened, I would copy textbooks for myself. The best part is that you can photocopy right into a PDF so I was able to share it with anons.
