You guys don’t actually read fiction right

Also, fiction contemporary to the time period it was made can be a useful history lesson, because people write what they know.

Lastly, science fiction can be mind expanding and inspiring, and all of these can be positive propaganda that makes you a better person. It just that after a point you're submerging in hedonism if you're not applying what you've learned.

There are pieces (You) can’t understand one word of, yet that doesn’t say anything about their quality.
In fact some of the classic, most celebrated novels in the history of literature were intentionally written to feature simple, accessible prose and vocab, funnily enough they were praised by critics for doing so.

Agreed. Yeah, I mean wow, why waste time with a fictional world? It’s really something to think about. The people who are depressed or sad about reality typically read fiction. Even if you’re just reading economics or current events, it’s typically more of an optimistic statement than getting involved in a fantasy world.

I will say though, go big or go home. The best fantasy worlds are those which have their own history, languages, etc etc

Tolkien and Herbert are good examples.

The only other fiction book I read in the past few years is the Hobbit, and I went far into it, then just never read for months then came back and finished it. I enjoyed it. But same as now, while reading fiction stuff, in the back of my head I just get bugged because it feels like a waste of time.
