Yes it's very obviously not a cure for their social inadequacies, although I have to oppose your assertion to linking into mental health; I think mental health is a bit of a cult science that seeks to problematise and formalise many perfectly natural states of being. That's not to say all of these fall into that umbrella; there are many real problems such as schizophrenia. I think that, in particular, depression and anxiety issues fall into it though - 'problems of human condition' moreso than 'mental health'.

For similar reasons, I think people cling to 'mental health' as an identity.

But don't you see, that the categorisation of these people based on diagnostic label enables the erosion of their morals and convictions? Someone is depressed; they lack stimulation. Do we call that a deficit in their mental health, or do we look at the lens from which they view the world? Because, by their own admission, a large chunk of causes for suicide are temporary and circumstantial. But if we give people this label, 'oh you're depressed', then it normalises that dysfunction, because it permits them to behave in that way. The youth argument for transitioning is all about there being "good" and "bad" transitions, like if you leave it too late you'll more likely get a "bad transition". By and large we do not get to choose our bodies, so while it may be arguable that having more masculine or feminine characteristics is beneficial, being in some exact way a particular kind of man or woman is unreasonable. If you were to have a limited veil of ignorance, would you find transitioning from a female into a man with a micropenis and gyno acceptable? What about a man into a hairy, flat chested woman with facial hair and a strong jaw and brow? Why or why not? Too much of these kinds of arguments go into a purely cosmetic realm, the experience of being a man or a woman includes the characteristics of all men and women with their varying traits, so I do not see why transitions cannot happen after puberty. I do not believe there is a good argument here.

To tl;dr it a bit, if you can't get behind Frida Kahlo aesthetics, you're not an ally you're the worst kind of sexist.
