I don't understand why this is such a hard concept for most people to understand.
So many people say stuff like "science is constantly changing, what was right 10 years ago might not be correct tomorrow". That really doesn't mean much.
Einstein showed that Newton was wrong but gravity didn't disappear, Einstein just had a better approximation and either theory is good enough for almost any situation.

This in part...
He is a fanatic in his support for the current status quo which has treated him so well.
He claims to be for science and truth yet he constantly manipulates statistics, facts, and ignore unpleasant truths.

Sam Harris has on the surface the same characteristics as Pinker, both are flawed people in search of truth. Harris however, has changed his view many times and admitted when he's wrong. Pinker however would never dare challenge the system who has brought him such fortunes. He is a coward and a liar.

If the media consensus on matter A is B, Pinker will defend B to the death, no matter the evidence to the contrary.

that's a really good point i haven't thought about. but I think fiction has too much of the author's perception in it. Their values, their opinion, their weaknesses, and their voice. Every nonfiction book I read i also assume has the author's weaknesses. like what are the odds that I read Chernow's book on Hamilton and Jefferson ends up displayed like a sniveling worm, or I read John Quincy Adam's biography and Andrew Jackson sounds like a hillbilly, or Jefferson Davie's biography and Joseph E Johnston and Bouregard look like cowards? that's a good point. there is something intangible about the fact that something really did happen rather than someone just made it up.
