Reminder that no man more based than him has ever lived. Humanity has yet to understand him.

Reading the cringe of young simp right now and while it's beautifully written its just hard to take it seriously. The intro said it set off a sensation of copycat suicides and I know this is the book that got him raised to nobility but I can't imagine anyone taking this book sincerely. Is it too late for me?

That story of him relying on his wife to defend him from a french soldier them makes him sound cringe. William Blake BTFO of the solider that bothered him and wrote in English so is more based.

I read that book when I was 18 with a serious case of oneitis. It was painful to read it, but it resulted in a great psychological growth for me. I'd say we should consider what the purpose of art is. If it is, as Schopenhauer says, to portray an aspect of human experience purely and perfectly, then Werther did an amazing job of that. It might be that you are too mature for pure and unrestrained teenage love. If that's true, then good for you. You have moved up the ladder of personal growth, so to speak, and you have no interest in this side of human experience. I myself don't think I'd appreciate Werther as much as I did back then if I had to read it again. But as I said, it doesn't make the book any less greater. I haven't seen any book that does a better job of portraying naive love.

I'd suggest considering one of his more serious works like Iphigenia or Faust.

How to spell GOETHE.
Step 1: The G in Goethe is like the g in "go".
Step 2: The OE part is a little tricky. Form your mouth as if you would say "ow" but then try to make an "ey" sound, which results into the German Umlaut "ö".
Step 3: Finally, the last letters THE are meant to sound like "tuh" but rather soft.

Overly saccharine and sympathetic is what makes it stand out. There were centuries of that stuff before. It’s the bit where Werther actually goes through with blowing his brains out but fumbles it to die a slow unromantic death and how his slavish oneitis just lead to bleak suicidal misery. Courtly love BTFO.
