Discuss horror fiction with anons, whether it be weird fiction, a slasher novel, a Romantic piece, or otherwise. What's your favourite style or sub-genre of horror?

"Annabel Lee" seems to be a poem about the forlorn love for Poe's significant other, who'd died a premature death years before. It's creepy and horrifying to have Burroughs read it because he killed his own wife in a drunken game of William Tell. Although he was gay, I think he loved his wife dearly. So there are tones of pain and guilt in his voice as he reads this, giving the horror elements that little shred of authenticity. It was also Poe's last poem, if I recall correctly, so I was wondering what makes people hold onto lost love like a festering wound?

Shilling a few Youtube channels with free horror/ghost story/weird fiction audiobooks. I've shilled them before since I love their stuff and it changed my life to have these to listen to, since I'm usually too tired to read around the time of day when I want to be spooked. Hopefully this isn't annoying.

Edward French has an amazing voice (reminds me of Boris Karloff and Vincent Price) and great production quality. Some vids are just voice, some are background ambient or occasional sound effects. I wish his channel would blow up more.

What I like best about French is that he does lots of weird fiction that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Either fun stories of authors whose names I might know, but I'd never have encountered that particular story other than on his channel, or great one-offs by obscure authors I'd simply never see elsewhere.

Another great channel, Bitesized Audio Classics: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwLSA3pDeSve120Pu9NaNyw

He has an amazing voice and does tons of Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories, again many I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Also some Conan Doyle, Chesterton etc. non-ghost stories. Great at insular accents.

I'm sure everybody already knows HorrorBabble but just in case:

Their catalogue is fantastic but you have to dig around in it a bit. Try searching for playlists of specific authors like Lovecraft. They are very eclectic. They had some nice readings of Saki recently:

And here are some miscellaneous one-offs I've found

A great reading of the classic, The Upper Berth

Michael Hordern's excellent M.R. James readings:

What's left of the uploads of Wayne June's Lovecraft readings on Youtube (search on other sites to find his amazing full-length Mountains of Madness reading, and others)

There used to be a great reading of Dan Simmon's The Terror up on Youtube, in two 10-hour chunks, by an Irish (I think) guy who did fantastic accents. Gone now it seems unfortunately.
