...because evolution involves physical and biological evoluation/natural selection.

If you look at our society through an evolution lens it would be athletes that would be number 1 in terms of natural selection. OP's proposal is flawed when you consider that many of the world's top athletes come from some of the poorest countries in the world and that some of the wealthiest people on the planet are people that would probably be weeded out through Darwinian natural selection.

Bottom line is that we currently live in a society where evolution and natural selection is now irrelevant for the human race. In other words, the human race (actually species) has ceased to evolve mostly due to the fact that we as a species have evolved to the point to where we theoretically beat evolution and natural selection.

Mutual Aid as a Factor in Evolution

Nice.

Relatedly, isn't the combination of socialization (which other animals possess) with self-awareness (which no other animal possesses) the real killer ap of the human species? Operating individually in some sort of non-scientist's stereotype of Darwinian struggle technology and civilization would not advance, or at least not nearly as quickly as large groups of people competing with each other. Think the technological and organizational leaps made in warfare compared to the leaps made in man on man competition or by lone phenoms.

Also, see colony-based insects. They are able to specialize in ways organizations with individualistic survival instincts can't, because they can sacrifice the natural fitness of members of their societies for highly specialized roles that increase the fitness of the colony as a whole. Just as agrarian civilization was able to support standing armies, which are over specialized and incapable of feeding themselves if they are separated from the rest of the colony.

Perhaps we could create a generation of Mozarts by raising all children with intensive music lessons from a young age.

I find such beliefs usually stem from an appreciation for collectivism.

I am a democratic socialist, however I make no attempt to interpret reality in favour my views, in fact I actively try and seek the opposite to ensure that I do not subconsciously favour one interpretation.

Perhaps you should try the same.

>> No.1578353

I get what previous anon was going on about. It isn't that humanity has escaped evolution, nothing escapes evolution. What humanity has found is the shortcut method. Through use of intelligence we are capable of making leaps and bounds that would take evolution millions and millions of years in the span of a hundred. Using intellect we can adapt, something that would happen anyways, much faster. We will physically adapt as well over time to most given enviroments, but we will have long since made ourselves adapted in that enviroment through science.
