I wonder how much physical attractiveness affects an artist? Probably not much, directly, but you would think it should have SOME effect. It will be a combination of objective merits and subjective self-assessment though. Lots of writers have obsessed over their physical flaws:

Someone said something like "every line Byron wrote was influenced by his club foot". But most people didn't even know or care about his club foot - he was a bit of a rock star in his day - so it was all how he felt about himself.

Keats was definitely insecure about his manlet status. He loved some woman called Fanny (she ignored him coz he was poor and a manlet). In one of his famous letters he said something like "but of course she does not care what Master John Keats, height Five Foot Four, thinks about the matter".

Charlotte Bronte definitely was worried she wasn't super-cute. In every novel she wrote, she self-inserts as a poor, plain but virtuous girl who wins out over a pretty rival. (Jane Austen does this a bit, too.)

At the other extreme, Jack Kerouac was a chad and I guess that affected his outlook - he knew he could glide through life exploiting everyone and getting away with it in the way that a cute young girl can.

Homsexual writers of course have a distinct sense of beauty of the self - usually linked to a horror of ageing, because homosexuality is all about that 14-20-year-old sweet spot. Oscar Wilde, W.H. Auden, Isherwood, Thom Gunn etc - all obsessed with YOUN MEN = CUTE AND OLD MEN = UGLY ARGGG I'M GETTING OLD.
