Recently I've come to the realization that I hoard old science fiction and fantasy novels.

Originally It started off as collecting TOR fantasy and science fiction because its usually awesome.

But then I started picking up anything that looked remotely interesting and even making trips to the thrift store and coming back with 10 or more books.

And I lend them out to all my friends and neighbors and such and I read almost everything I get, But there is just so much of it!

I think I own something like 500 paperbacks I've bought in the last 5 years.

That would take hours too make readable with my phone camera, also house is mess.

Though I can tell you some cool stuff I've recently picked up on yesterdays run.

I got Lord Valentine's Castle by Robert Silverburg and its medieval sci fi thats like 20 years older than I am and that has me excited, the crazy old guy at the bus stop said it was by the author of a book called Nightwings and wanted it.

Cyber Way by Alan dean foster A cyberpunk cop thing from the guy who did the last starfighter

Finally got the first book in "The Tales of Arthur" and the first book in the Belgariad.

Picked up a missing piece in my orson scott card collection called Lost boys.

And a few of the left behind books because they were a quarter each.

I didn't mean a picture that would make them readable anyway I just wanted a picture out of curiosity to see how you were storing them all/ to see the giganticness of your collection.

Alot of them are boxed and organized by series, I have two tiny bookshelfs for series I'm currently reading and new arrivals.

Also I'd be embarrassed to post so many incomplete series due to the books I've been unable to find and book I have lent out.

Maybe once I finally break down and buy a couple of nice bookshelfs I'll post my shame for you guys.

You know, there's a used book store that started out with a similar story you're telling. Just sayin' is all.
Also, I love me some Dresden Codak.

I'd love nothing more than to do that, but Michigan has nowhere near enough hipsters and socially awkward men to keep me in business.

The bookstore in my hometown started that way, and it's not overrun my hipsters. In fact, knowing the people in that town, I'm not entirely sure who goes in there. Bunch of illiterate hillbillies that they are.

I know who goes in there. The weird-folk. Have you ever noticed that sorta "alternative" (for lack of a better term) people in rural communities are by far the weirdest motherfuckers in the world?

Honestly I just generalize far too many groups as "hipsters" I didn't really mean it as an offensive term.

Eastern Illinois University is one town over, and there's no bookstores in that town, so I think the students from there come over. Though, from conversations I've had with some of the students there, they don't know the store exists. Let alone the other bookstore just a few blocks down.

That picture is ridiculous.
If it's trying to make a point its failing by making overly retarded examples.

I think it's funny but at the same time I kind of get annoyed at the point it seems to be making

Like, it kind of seems to be implying that any attempt to limit science or think about its impacts is foolish naysaying that should be disregarded and i kind of disagree with that

I think it's a lighthearted poke at the ironic twists in classic science fiction tropes. Every time it's posted here someone gets butthurt over it which is more hilarious than the comic itself.

>> No.1566226

>>1566223
i wouldn't say i'm butthurt

tbh i wouldn't really have any problem with it if it weren't by the dresden codak guy and if it didn't fit into his weird attitude towards science (and general smugness) that i already find kind of annoying. dude bugs me, i'll admit it.
