I’m sympathetic to power politics, but this book is an embarrassment

Power politics don't need you to be sympathetic to them. Only power politicians

Hmmm....

John Mearsheimer

"This book is an embarrassment"

I'm wondering... who could be behind this post?

The quality of thought is childlike.
>it’s harder to invade over oceans
>power can be economic and military
For people who haven’t read the book, these sorts of things are stated as profound conclusions. It outrageously simplified things.

How would you expound upon these points then?

First, at the very minimum, I’d discuss ‘states’, and how they’ve changed

Mearsheimer is one of the best rn. Some of his ideas are fairly simple and seem obvious, but one has to consider that a majority of IR theorists and especially actual decision makers don't agree with him. Up until the past several years the prevailing position was, "throw any considerations about great power politics out the window, we are all trending toward a global order with trade and where everyone follows the rules/ respects general principles of int law."

Oh yes if there's one thing academics like it is being publically wrong. Maybe this works for politicians.

The book is over 500 pages I doubt his points are encapsulated in those two sentences.

Just got off the phone with Power Politics. He admitted that though he likes to project strength, he sometimes gets lonely and needs a sympathetic shoulder to cry on.

Academics are generally wrong in the area of politics and economics. They tend to promote an ultra-idealized view that just so happens to rationalize whatever the status quo is.
