Has anyone here read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica?

>> No.15645041

yea. it's rly predictable though. knew what was coming next the whole way through

>> No.15645053

I stopped at OP.

It told me to go back and read an entry from F.

To read the entire thing, literally, you'd have to read different iterations of various articles that have been published over the years -- where they don't just revise an entry, but replace an old piece with an entirely new version.

Thus, among other things, "old-fashioned" (or embarrassing) political perspectives, etc, are quietly eliminated.

It's such a pain in the ass to get rid of these. No place takes them as donations, really cumbersome to throw in the garbage.

I feel like childhood is the only period in life when you have time for that kind of autistic power reading (provided you're lucky enough to be in a family that allows that).
No matter how dedicated, an adult who wants to read has to make choices and to focus on things that are "important". That includes scholars of language and philosophy.

you can use an axe/whatever cleaver and a chopping block and its better than just dumping them in a bag since the corners can tear it.

if you dont at least have access to an axe please kill your parents for failing you.

Borges on Encyclopedia Britannica:
>—I spent 300 pesos in a somewhat old edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, which I still have; the 11th edition which is far superior to the current ones. Because they used to be made by the Oxford University and now they're made by I don't know what North American publisher, which is interested in one of the saddest things of the world: statistics, for example. It's a book full of dates and numbers. Instead, the old edition has articles—by Macaulay, by De Quincey, Swinburne—which were actually essays. Articles are now made out of abbreviations: he was born in such date, a little cross and the date he died. He published these books, with the dates in parenthesis. Ruling in three lines, and there, it's done; that is not a study about a writer: it looks more like a census or a phone book than a literary work.

>le third worlder with strong opinions bait

You may recall when I called out Laiseca as flavor of the month for the 5 or 6 threads that had been produced in a short amount of time. Some naive anons said they were going to spread the world. They even hinted at translating him to English for the benefit of /lit/.
Well, it's been at least two months since I posed that statement and there's been close to nil threads about Laiseca.

So fuck off.
