You shouldn't, obviously. Everyone on /lit/ knows this.

I haven’t read it, but it seems to be the philosophical explanation of The Stranger. If you’re interested in understanding the absurdism of his previous book in a more literal kind of way I would read it. It’s on my list

I think it ties more into The Plague than The Stranger

are you thinking about killing yourself?

Makes sense.

>> No.15643123

It's level entry philosophy and not overwhelming in any aspect since the idea of Sisyphus being happy is tragic.

One must imagine you buying it.

Reading the Myth makes sense as a reference for all of his work. For La Peste specifically I think you should rather read The Rebel (L'Homme révolté).

Should I read The Plague if I haven't read The Myth Of Sisyphus? I'm just having trouble believing that I won't "understand" The Plague without Sisyphus.

>> No.15644961

Clearly no one in this thread has read it. You should read it if you are considering suicide. The main philosophical question Camus attempts to answer is if the meaningless of life means one should kill oneself.

It's not a book buddy, it's an idea, it's a lifestyle. You. Have. No. Idea.
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

It would just be clearer to you right from the start of reading it, but yeah the basic analogy is not hard to grasp.

He explains the philosophy behind The Stranger. Not a bad book, a little dry though.

I honestly think it's Camus' worst work.
>Needing to read a book to figure out if you should kys yourself

>> No.15645543

>I think life has a meaning, so it is worth living!
Then continue living it to pursue it, Bloomer

>I think life has no meaning so it is not worth living
Then kill yourself, Doomer. Suicide is the only way out.

>I think my life has no meaning, but that's because of my limitations. There surely is some deeper trascendental meaning that escapes me, like God, my country, knowledge, the ideal society, the idea of the Good, whatever
You are just doing leaps of faith to continue living. Ultimately you actually have no reason to live.

>I think, like the Doomer, that life has ultimately NO meaning of any kind, and I accept that hard fact, yet I still refuse to kill myself
Then read this book

Could be more, could be less. Depends on if you identify with the Absurd Man he presents halfway through the book.

>the idea of Sisyphus being happy is tragic.
It is supposed to be a revolt against the tragedy. One makes it not tragic by enjoying it and yelling fuck you to the Absurd.

>> No.15645592

I really don't see it as an explanation of The Stranger at all. Meursault bares very little resemblance to any of Camus examples of absurd lifestyles.
