Are there any self-help books that aren't trash?

Just watch a high-quality magical girl anime instead. They have far more depth believe it or not. I can recommend a few.

Note, none of these titles have anything lewd. I try to avoid fanservice and lewd stuff because they're disgraceful.
My number one favorite is Jewelpet Twinkle. It has a well-written story. Note, no other title in the series is good:
https://youtu.be/4-jL6eaAPAE
My second favorite is Anyamaru Tantei Kiruminzuu. It has a nice ecological message, which also teaches the viewer to be more sympathetic towards animals:
https://youtu.be/F6vt9XlxavM
Finally, my third favorite is Heartcatch Precure. The ending feels very Zoroastrian:
https://youtu.be/yfoZRgoaIDk
Also, I am currently watching Mewkledreamy, but I want to finish it before deciding if it's any good. I am enjoying it a lot though. It's still airing:
https://youtu.be/Dwx78HouB60
All of these anime encourage friendship, following your dreams, revering the natural world and its creatures, maintaining modesty and virtue, and more. Far better than any self-help filth.
By the way, I am a prophet.

Ones that are also pop-sci or psych have potential. I got a lot out of Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism and Nir Eyal's Indistractable this year. Also, much of philosophy investigates self improvement.

Np. There's also a lot of good Iyashikei too, which tend to be just about relaxing in nature. Shirokuma Cafe is an example of one, which is my personal favorite. It has a kind of British charm:
https://vimeo.com/39911753
Here a few more I liked a lot.
Sketchbook: Full Color's: About using solitude in natural scenery to serve as inspiration for artwork
https://youtu.be/Zuym6mtL4sg
Yuru Camp: About camping
https://youtu.be/7-EwChG1WTA
Encouragement of Climb: About mountain climbing
https://youtu.be/-n9FRlYqQHU

I have more I could recommend, but I don't want to derail this topic more. I also like Non Non Biyori, but I dislike the characterization and undercurrents of lesbianism. The other stuff I recommended don't have such creepy psychosexual crap.

It didn't turn my life around or anything, but overall they made me more mindful of how i waste time online and let corps manipulate me. Indistractable also made me more ascetic in general. The stuff about our brains' naturally selected bias towards suffering/striving was particularly illuminating.

I think "what every body is saying" by Navarro Joe is a good read. It was at least for me, being socially retarded, I learnt a lot about what was wrong with my own body language, and what kind of gestures I had to implement in order to correct it.

I didn't find it life changing, but there were some good insights that I learned from like the importance of remembering people's names when addressing them and being genuinely interested in other people.

Not related, but I used to hate-listen to the podcast of the bottom left two before they went behind a paywall for a lot of money.
They started releasing episodes for free during corona and it turns out that they're in their mid-30s and still getting pumped and dumped and they're miserable about it.
They should be a cautionary tale but they released a clip of a letter from a listener who broke up with her first boyfriend of 3 years and fucked 8 guys in 6 months, crediting the show for making her feel better about it.
Women are silly sometimes.

The average person hasn't read this book nor learned the "feign interest" lesson. Also, in a addition to being socially uncanny if not bizarre, it's quite likely you have visible hygienic weak spots or other unfortunate physical features. Furthermore, your posting here all but confirms you aren't interesting or powerful enough for anyone to give a shit about impressing you. What did you expect?
