What makes you disregard someone’s work? For me, it’s usually racism.

I don't think anything could make me disregard someone's work unless they're writing on something which they objectively failed at

A lack of dedication to the production of meaningful dialogue and description. When I read, watch, or play something that I can feel has zero passion by its creator. I hate art for art's sake. Some would call this "soulless"

There's a long-running boycott on Wagner's works in Israel (The Israeli Philharmonic doesn't play Wagner; I know of but a single case where a radio show played Wagner, but ended up apologizing for it). But go to any university in Israel and you will be greeted by passages from Martin Heidegger's works. Heidegger was by any measure a far worse offender than Wagner. Those things make very little sense. I think that, often, people just hate someone for other reasons and look for a nice-sounding pretext to shun him. (I'm Jewish; never had a problem with enjoying antisemitic artists, and anyway, as James Watson said, some antisemitism is justified, just like some anti-Irish feeling is justified; just being antisemitic or anti-Irish to an extent isn't just a great crime.)

Well, the secular-leftist part of the tribe doesn't think like that. Orthodox environments are quite different, but, due to their nature, most people are unaware of them. I'm not saying that ADL-types who see antisemitism everywhere and intimidate putative culprits don't represent many Jews, but it's easy to exaggerate their popularity among Jews because Orthodox Jews (many of whom consider themselves to be in exile and have very little interest in sticking their nose into the affairs of the Goyim) are often just not counted.

(1) reputation/influence because there isn’t enough time to read everything. I’ll probably never read Rand because of her constantly-affirmed reputation as philosophically shallow. This is merely pragmatic, of course; I would never refuse to read something on principle alone, and this brings me to (2) Reading a work and deciding its worth based on the quality of its best ideas. No localized defect of a work (or of its author) is by itself sufficient for me to disregard it, because I read to enhance my own independent thought, not to adopt the worldviews of other people.
